TechBite Technology
Steve Bass's Weekly Newsletter
Steve Bass

TechBite's columnist Steve Bass writes weekly commentary on the technology products he loves, the strategies for getting the most out of them, and the gotchas that can cause computing misery. Plus a couple of weekly laughs.

I'd Rather Be Writing

I'm lying. I'd rather be somewhere along the coast of San Diego, fishing for yellowtail off the back of a power boat.

Yet after these last few months, it's just as grand being back at the PC giving you a newsletter filled with technology news, computing tips, and a couple of time wasters.

Sincere thanks to the hundreds of you who offered kind words, advice and support, and shared your "been there, done that" stories. It's great knowing I'm not facing this alone.

For those of you who are new here, and the scads who didn't know why I went AWOL (wait, you mean you haven't missed me?), read the brief story of my absence.

The Newsletter's Back
You'll see it on Wednesday, as usual. But I decided on two changes to the newsletter.

First, it's going to be shorter. I like reading newsletters with just a few topics that I can chew through in a few minutes, and from the feedback, you do, too. I won't give you a skimpy newsletter, mind you, but not the 1,500- and occasional 2,000-word behemoths I've been creating.

Next, I'm going to cut myself some slack by writing more about what I like and think is important or fascinating, instead of guessing and worrying about what I think you'd like. My guess is we'll agree, and I'll be able to stop fretting over content. That means some weeks I won't have a Tech Tip of the Week, which relieves me of spending an hour trying to come up with something; other weeks I may have two Tools of the Week. Make sense?

So watch for my regularly scheduled newsletter this Wednesday.

By the way, I'll be heading to the Computer Electronics Show for a couple of days later this week and I'll give you the lowdown on the smartest -- and, of course, the dumbest -- products everyone's pitching.
